The future stars of mixed martial arts return to Las Vegas’ Cox Pavilion on July 1,
and the nation’s premiere amateur promotion will look to crown an astounding five
new champions.
“Tuff-N-Uff: The Future Stars of MMA,” in association with Justice Entertainment
Group, looks to bring a few holiday fireworks to Sin City with the 12-bout
event “Tuff-N-Uff: Browning vs. Postma,” featuring the debut of the Randy Couture
Tuff-N-Uff Heavyweight Title, as well as four more championship bouts.
The night’s main event sees Team Tompkins’ Brandon Browning (1-1) and One
Kick Nick-trained Carl Postma (1-0) attempt to become the inaugural Randy
Couture Tuff-N-Uff Heavyweight Champion, and the UFC Hall of Famer is expected
to be on hand to award the belt named in his honor.
“It is an honor to have one of the belts named after me,” Couture said. “My son and
other amateur fighters have gone through and developed their skills in the Tuff-N-
Uff amateur series with their aspirations to become professionals similar to myself.”
The winner of Tuff-N-Uff Heavyweight Title will also earn the honor of becoming
the first-ever heavyweight champion in the five-year history of the Tuff-N-Uff
organization.
The night’s co-features sees Tuff-N-Uff’s vacant featherweight title up for grabs, in
addition to the crowning of three new female champions.
“We’re always looking to bring the best possible fight cards to our fans, and this
lineup is no exception,” Tuff-N-Uff president Barry Meyer said. “With our past
champions Jimmy Jones, Taylor Stratford, T.J. Cunanan and Ashley Cummins all
moving to the pro ranks, we felt there was no better way to celebrate the Fourth of
July weekend than to crown five new title-holders.”
At 145 pounds, a pair of four-time Tuff-N-Uff veterans look to claim gold, as Troy
Remer (3-1) meets the undefeated Cesar Campos (5-0). Fan-favorite Remer looks
to rebound from a hard-fought decision loss to Rudy Morales, while TapouT’s
Campos looks for his sixth win of 2011.
In female 145-pound action, the 5-foot-11 Jessamyn Duke (3-1) looks to keep her
two-fight win streak alive against gritty Team Quest product Autumn Richardson
(3-3). Already the Absolute Action MMA champ, Duke brings a string of back-to-
back submission wins to the cage. Meanwhile, Richardson makes her second effort
at a Tuff-N-Uff title after falling short against Rousey this past November.
In the 135-pound women’s division, Marcia Allen (4-2) and Kari Lichtenwainer
(1-2) each make their Tuff-N-Uff debut while searching for promotional gold, while
Kathryn Davis (2-1) meets Kaiyana Rain (1-0) for the 115-pound female title.
In addition to the night's featured contests, a full lineup of aspiring amateur
fighters from some of the world's top academies – including 10th Planet Riverside,
LA Boxing, Striking Unlimited, Team Beastman, Team Suffer, Team Tompkins,
Throwdown, Wand Fight Team and Xtreme Couture – will compete at Tuff-N-Uff's
July 1 event.
