Tuff-N-Uff is one of the top amateur promotions in the world and Saturday night only enhanced the already stellar reputation. The stacked card featured 12 action packed bouts where these amateur combatants fought with the heart and determination of a champion. The night was filled with knockouts, submissions and hard fought decisions as six titles were on the line including the inaugural Randy Couture Heavyweight title bout.
Couture was in attendance and was honored prior to the fights for his legendary career and contributions to the world of mixed martial arts. Couture was introduced by Tuff-N-Uff President Barry Meyer and the UFC Hall of Famer spoke about how it was an honor to have the Tuff-N-Uff Heavyweight championship named for him. Couture went on to praise Tuff-N-Uff for the work it has done in growing and supporting amateur MMA and for doing it the right way with extensive consideration for matching fighters of comparable skill levels. In addition, Couture pointed out that his son Ryan, who is now with Strikeforce, came up through the ranks at Tuff-N-Uff.
Couture was not the only recognizable face among the large crowd at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas for this Tuff-N-Uff event. Former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir was in attendance along with The Ultimate Fighter alum Cody McKenzie, Strikeforce Heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum, Team Tompkins trainer Shawn Tompkins and grappling stand-out turned MMA competitor Robert Drysdale. Strikeforce Women’s 145 pound champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos was also in attendance and presented the belts to the winners of the women’s title fight winners.
Five of the six titles on the line were claimed on this night of MMA action. The title fight in the women’s 115 pound division was declared a majority draw between Reno Combat Academy’s Kathryn Davis and Kaiyana Rain from Werdum Combat Team in Los Angeles. It was an unfortunate but fitting ending to what was clearly the fight of the night as these young ladies stole the show with a nine minute slugfest that had the crowd on his feet and asking for one more round to decide the title.
John Gettle of Suffer/Drysdale in Las Vegas put on a grappling clinic to claim the middleweight title as he submitted Tyler Jeppesen of Team Vegas Bail in the opening round. In the women’s 145 pound title bout Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke of AFS in Lexington, Kentucky used her strong grappling game to earn a hard fought decision against a very game opponent in Autumn “300” Richardson who trains with Team Quest Oceanside in California.
In the featherweight title bout Cesar “Surefire” Campos of Team Tapout in Las Vegas prevailed with a second round rear naked choke victory over Troy Remer of Xtreme Couture after being dominated in the opening round by the grappling of Remer. Marciea “Black Window” Allen of MMA Factory in Watertown, South Dakota claimed the women’s 135 pound strap with a convincing decision win over a very game Kari Lichtenwalner of Team Wand in Vegas.
The main event was for the inaugural Randy Couture Heavyweight title and it was all one-way traffic as Carl Postma from One Kick Nick got off to a fast start on and pounded out a first round TKO over a tough but over-matched Brandon Browning from Team Tompkins. Postma gained the upper hand early and Browning could never find his offense as Postma kept the pressure on to earn the win and the heavyweight belt.
